L'Institut a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9, \u00e0 l'initiative du juge Abdulqawi A. Le 30 janvier 2012, la cr\u00e9ation de l'Institut a \u00e9t\u00e9 approuv\u00e9e par l'Assembl\u00e9e des chefs d'\u00c9tat et de gouvernement de l'Union africaine. L'Assembl\u00e9e a soulign\u00e9 le \"l'importance strat\u00e9gique \" de l'Institut en tant qu'institution panafricaine \" vou\u00e9e \u00e0 offrir un enseignement sup\u00e9rieur et une recherche en droit international et en droit de l'Union africaine n\u00e9cessaires au d\u00e9veloppement de l'Afrique \". L'Assembl\u00e9e a \u00e9galement reconnu \"l'importance du r\u00f4le que l'Institut jouera dans le renforcement de la capacit\u00e9 des facult\u00e9s de droit et des juristes africains \u00e0 traiter des divers aspects du droit international et du droit de l'Union africaine\" (D\u00e9cision 405 (XVIII), D\u00e9cision relative \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation d'un Institut africain de droit international \u00e0 Arusha, en R\u00e9publique-Unie de Tanzanie.<\/i>).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Un an plus tard, le 14 janvier 2013, c'\u00e9tait au tour de l'Assembl\u00e9e g\u00e9n\u00e9rale des Nations unies de saluer la cr\u00e9ation de l'Institut. L'Assembl\u00e9e g\u00e9n\u00e9rale a \u00e9galement encourag\u00e9 le Secr\u00e9tariat de l'ONU \u00e0 coop\u00e9rer avec l'Institut par l'interm\u00e9diaire de la Division de la codification de son Bureau des affaires juridiques (r\u00e9solution 67\/91 (Programme d'assistance des Nations Unies aux fins de l'enseignement, de l'\u00e9tude, de la diffusion et d'une compr\u00e9hension plus large du droit international, paragraphe 20.<\/i>). Depuis lors, l'Assembl\u00e9e g\u00e9n\u00e9rale r\u00e9it\u00e8re chaque ann\u00e9e son encouragement \u00e0 la Division de la codification \u00e0 coop\u00e9rer avec l'Institut africain de droit international (voir par exemple la r\u00e9solution 74\/185 du 27 d\u00e9cembre 2019, paragraphe 22).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
