The African Institute of International Law (AIIL) is organizing a seminar on “Strengthening Legal Frameworks and Access to Justice for Women in Africa”, taking place from 24–28 November 2025. This important event builds on years of AIIL’s work to promote women’s rights, tackle gender-based violence, and improve access to justice across the continent.
The seminar will bring together judges, lawyers, policymakers, community leaders, and civil society actors to explore practical ways of improving women’s legal protections, supporting survivors of violence, and ensuring gender-sensitive reforms within African legal systems.
Key themes include evaluating current laws, training justice officials, coordinating between formal and customary systems, expanding access to legal aid, and advocating for stronger legislation to safeguard women’s rights. Participants will take part in interactive sessions, expert presentations, roundtables, and practical workshops designed to build real solutions.
Expected outcomes of the seminar include stronger capacity of justice actors, improved collaboration between institutions, and better access to justice for women and girls in Africa.
